SALEM: Anti-liquor activist Sasi Perumal's son P Vivek has sat on a one-day hunger strike to demand total prohibition in Tamil Nadu. He said Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa should have announced total prohibition in the state ahead of Independence Day.
"My father died protesting for total prohibition in Tamil Nadu. His last wish has to be fulfilled.

The government shouldn't take much time for the announcement," he said in his home village in Mettukkadu in the district.
His family members, including his brother P Navaneethan, uncle S K Selvam and villagers from Mettukkadu accompanied Vivek. He would conclude the hunger strike on Saturday evening around 6pm.
Vivek has apparently not obtained any permission from the police for the hunger strike. Police said they were awaiting orders from higher officials to take action against Vivek.
